Position: Web Editor
Department: Editorial
Reports To: Managing Web Editor & Editorial Director
Location: Media Matters for America Headquarters, Washington, D.C.
Position Responsibilities:
- Copyedit all website content for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, clarity, and adherence to Media Matters for America style
- Remain current across a spectrum of media, including print, television, radio, and blogs
- Proofread and correct website content
- Participate in daily editorial meetings
- Flexibility with work schedule; this position requires occasional evening and weekend work
Competencies/Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years experience copyediting content at a print or online media outlet in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment
- Knowledge of politics in the media
- A broad range of intellectual interests, particularly in the areas of politics, current events, and the media
- Ability to debate and to speak persuasively
- Creative and detail-oriented attributes as well as sensitivity to deadlines required
- Commitment to the organizational mission and ideology in order to effectively promote and advance the goals of Media Matters
- Ability to excel in a team-based, participatory environment as well as work autonomously; good sense of humor a plus
