Conservatives continue to ignore GOP Sen. Specter while attacking Dems for visiting Syria

On December 14, Media Matters for America noted that Fox News chief White House correspondent Bret Baier had falsely suggested that only Democrats were planning trips to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad over the Bush administration's objections, ignoring Sen. Arlen Specter's (R-PA) expected visit to Syria and planned meeting with Assad. Since Baier's report, conservative television hosts have either attacked Democrats or held segments bashing Democrats for holding or wanting to hold talks with Syria or North Korea, while continuing to ignore Specter's expected visit to Syria.

I bet

If we had a democratic administration refusing to talk to these countries, and a bunch of republican senators went over there to talk, the righty media would be reporting that they were taking a strong initiative to protect our countries interests.

Of course they would.

But then, if Gore had won in 2000, and had done everything EXACTLY as Bush has, he would have been impeached 3 years ago.

Woudn't...

happen.

they report, but the decisions are ultimately your own responsibilty

You know, not to take the dialogue to another, higher plane, but it is worth noting a special and insidious hazard the American People face at all times:

That certain interested parties (with certain private interests) will try and make the American People's enemies for them...

Which is to say, that while some nations may not truly represent a threat to the National Security of the American People, there will be certain interested parties who work overtime to make those nations appear to be such a threat to the American People.

Does or does not the "media" hacks at FOX work overtime convincing the American People that Iran and Syria are their enemies?

And the question is asked not so much to measure our relationship to Iran and Syria, but to measure the American People's relationship to FOX...

Since when do we think FOX's opinion on foreign policy is anything but an attempt to persuade the American People to some or another private interest...

...perhaps with tragic and deadly consequences?

Again, not to go to far on the matter, but I'd be careful who I listened to when it came to deciding just who it is that my enemies might be in this world...

...I hardly think rupert murdoch and roger ailes to be "friends" of the American People.

Fox ain't on my christmas list, that's for sure

Not even for the regifted fruitcake from last year.

That's OK, Snoop

No network has more fruitcakes than Fox. Yours would have to be some pretty amazing fruitcake to impress the Foxdroids.

What War?

Did I miss the declaration of war?

If Bungle (or Mudrock) wants to declare war, Congress might want to have a say - and maybe investigate to see if it is a good idea? Until Congress declares war, I am content to allow exploratory missions by any and all the members thereof - maybe Brownback, et al., can go and inquire about all the WMD they are certain were in Iraq?

iraq videos

Great post, thanks. Don't know if you've seen these three short videos from Iraq yet or not, but both show the US Military engaging in some very dubious actions. I have them up on my site at www.minor-ripper.blogspot.com

How to know when a republican is lying

CARLSON: I think you're blaming the victim. And I think when the next Democrat is elected president, which will probably be in two years, and, you know, it's the equivalent of Jesse Helms pops up and goes to whatever country and starts undercutting him, I will defend the Democratic president. I will. I promise.

If Sen. Specter.....

really does care to get to the bottom of it all by going to the Middle East and talking to Syria, he'd take the time to say that out loud and make the 'media' aknowledge the hypocrisy of it all........

I appreciate Arlen's attempt, but he could help create a more non-partisan atmosphere as it pertains to the disaster called Iraq!!

bastian

repeats the same old right wing crap about kerry not earning his purple hearts. she quotes a supposed e-mail about him "losing a fingernail". these people know the truth, and yet they continue to spread the lie. the straight shooters, the morally upright, family values, i'm a good christian, people know the truth and lie. low life liars.

I Give Bastian A Pass . . .

On the same basis that I give Cindy Sheehan a pass: a son sacrificed his life to earn that pass for her. There is no dearer sacrifice than one's children.

BTW, I fully back Sheehan: despite her loss, she is doing something to combat the evil that took her son. Bastian appears to have surrendered herself to that evil, but I still cannot throw rocks at her.

Posted by worrierking in reply to conleytgwinn

Nor Can I

Most of us will never know what she's going through. I don't agree with her, I think she is wrong about Senator Kerry, but I won't speak ill of her.

Bastian Again:

I will even hope that she is not collateral damage to the rocks I DO throw at Bungle and the Repugnant liars who begat this catastrof***.

Funny. They don't care when Bush disregards anything the people say or want, but when a couple Democrats have direct talks (and why shouldn't we? i mean, let's try to avert nuclear Armageddon if we can, OK?) it's suddenly a huge deal.
