CNN's Malveaux said "conspiracy theorists" talk about North American Union -- what about Dobbs?

Summary: Discussing President Bush's denial that the federal government has plans for a "North American Union," CNN's Suzanne Malveaux said Bush's denial followed "a lot of talk in the blogosphere and conspiracy theorists." But Malveaux did not note that CNN's own Lou Dobbs, on whose show Malveaux regularly provides news reports, has repeatedly hyped the possibility of a North American Union.

Now that's funny!

It's a riot. And I was going to write something blithe about how scary peace and harmony would be, however, I must admit I feel uneasy when I read this regarding this conspiracy theory:

BUSH [video clip]: I'm amused by the difference between what actually takes place in the meetings and what some are trying to, you know, say takes place. It's quite comical, actually, when you realize the difference between reality and what some people are talking on TV about.

I am hardly a conservative or conspriracy theorist but given Bush's previous track record with the truth now I am worried about the North American Union and about to side with Dobbs. Because if Bush is downplaying it now in the media, I half expect to hear about our annexing Mexico and Canada or the otherway around in a few months.

Strange and amazing. 95% of Dobb's audience disbelieve our decider-in- chief.

Let's be serious people.

You're not going to have an MMFA worker post a comment that MMFA are idiots.

Likewise, don't expect the same from people who work for CNN to say the same about Dobbs.

First, who's to say Dobbs is NOT a "conspiracy theorist"?

And second, who is so damn stupid as to believe there are not "conspiracies" abounding within this (and every) Administration?

Why are "conspiracy theorists" equated with tin foil hats and black helicopters, and NOT with Iran/Contra, Watergate, the "Arkansas Project", firing of attorneys general, the outing of Valarie Plame, or any of the other PROVEN CONSPIRACIES?

It is useful to conspirators to discount the TRUTH, and to ridicule those who seek to expose illegal and underhanded backroom dirty dealings. When you hear the charge of "conspiracy theorist", it's usually made by someone who knows that the conspiracy is a FACT, and does not wish it exposed.

Bush responded: "It's quite comical, actually, when you realize the difference between reality and what some people are talking on TV about."... sheesh, you'd think he'd more appreciative of the criminally delusional after 7+ years.

Regarding the Security Prosperty Partnership be reminded one of the missions is to insure continued commerce in the event of another terrorist attack.  Commerce.  Business and industry shipping goods and food.

Why then is it so hard to accept they intend to build the super highway?

We were lied to about the reason for invading Iraq and there are no consequences for the liars.  The new mantra is: "Don't go back in time.  We are there now, and we can't leave."  And Boobis Americanis is buying it.  Oh well, they lied, your kid died, but you know, we can't leave because things are getting better.  Well, in my day, if you lied you paid the price.  And things going better is a matter of opinion.  The superhighway will be built, and then the liars will say it was needed to insure we get our needs met in case "they" attack us here and Boobis Americanis will say o.k...it's not such a bad idea.  The liars will scare Boobis Americanis with visions of starvation and loss of necessary materials.  The loss of American Sovereignty will mean nothing until there is a massacre on the highway involving unregulated trucks,  inexperienced Mexican drivers or an environmental disaster with hazardous and deadly materials.  States rights to control what is transported will be abolished.  And there will be no consequences for the liars.

Nice.

That rant sounds just exactly like the ones I hear on conservative radio day in, and day out. I mean, almost verbatim. That's what's kind of scary.

If they were building this "superhighway" don't you think we'd see some signs of that by now? I mean, something that is going to carry commerce through all 3 countries is a rather large project, and should have commenced at this point in time, or is it entirely possible that it is already here? I mean, we do already have interstate highways that run, well, all through our country, and Canada's roads are pretty darn good.

As far as un-regulated Mexican trucks massacring people, come on now. They are going to have to follow the rules, just like everyone else. Haven't you ever seen a weigh station on an interstate where trucks are, get this, weighed and inspected before they're allowed to continue down the road.

I love these types of conspiracy theories, they abound around where I live in NC. People actually believe that the US government is going to disband, and we'll all be one large giant happy country (Canada, US, and Mexico) and that it will be a free for all. Seriously? Get a grip folks, get a freakin' grip on things.

Funny thing, I've seen and heard far less from people who believe there is a vast conspiracy to create a North American Union than I have from people who want to deny that there is such a conspiracy.  What does it mean when someone is so quick to deny before being accused?

Posted by magnolialover in reply to MoonbatYouBet

You should live in North Carolina. Local and national talk show hosts from the South have been discussing this for months on end now, and how it's another attempt at dissolving the USA, and how this will do it (funny how the UN was supposed to do it before, and that didn't happen either).

What is also funny is that the same people talking about how the US is going to dissolve because of this, are the same ones who deny that there could be any conspiracy behind 9/11.

Now, I don't prescribe to either of those theories, and tend to toss them into the pile with the Moon landing conspiracy nuts.

Posted by MoonbatYouBet in reply to magnolialover

Ah, a regional thing then.  This is really just another shade of the belief that the evil libruls wanted to team up with the UN to create a godless world government.  So, how do these talkers reconcile that former belief with the fact that the conspirators in this case are not the liberals at all?

Conspiracy Theories are a popular and "entertaining" hobby of both the far left and far right.

Dobb's (and CNN) have truly been disgraceful on this issue.  From the JFK assassination to 9/11, when people feel powerless and overwhelmed, they sometimes turn to conspiracies theories to provide some kind of explanation.  Many of these conspiracy theories seem like cults to me.

I know, when the North American Union comes to being, Elvis will be our leader. Lee Harvey Oswald and the Mafia will be our state department, and all the aliens at area 51 will work for the Internal Revenue Service.

Google Kansas City Inland Port. Link to trade corridors. Click on Continental Maps. View all options. In relation to this discussion, I think things are under way. The question is whether or not it is sinister.

I don't know enough about the 'conspiracy theories' or the 'Security and Prosperity Partnership' to comment on them.  However, proposals to build a superhighway connecting Mexico, the US and Canada are most certainly real.  You can read all about them on TxDOT webpages:

http://www.keeptexasmoving.org/index.php/trans-texas_corridor

http://ttc.keeptexasmoving.com/projects/i69/

From the TTC website: Interstate 69 is a planned 1,600-mile national highway connecting Mexico, the United States and Canada.  Eight states are involved in the project.  In Texas, I-69 will be developed under the Trans-Texas Corridor master plan.

There's also plans for the Trans-Texas Corridor-35 (TTC-35) Oklahoma-Mexico/Gulf Coast highway.  These highways aren't just roads that connect the US with out North and South neighbors (there's already plenty of routes that connect the three countries) rather, these are super-highways that are still in their planning phase.  In my neck of the woods, sections such as SH-130 are already underway (through a public/private partnership with CINTRA, a Spanish-based company) and will later become a part of the TTC-35 master plan if and when the other sections of the highway are complete.

Then I ask this question:

So what?

Posted by corkyt in reply to magnolialover

So What is not a question. It's a statement of one who does not care or someone whose opinion has been exhausted.

Posted by magnolialover in reply to corkyt

I'm asking you, why do you think that this is important? Wouldn't it be better, and also in the meantime decrease the transit time of goods from Mexico to the US and Canada and vice versa? Therefore opening up trade even further between the 3 countries? ANd remember, yes, we are all friends, whether you want to admit that or not. This would also, undoubtedly, satisfy even further, American's thirst and taste for cheap goods, and lower prices.

I'm trying to figure out WHY you have a problem with a so called super highway, and nobody has really given out a good answer yet. It all still seems to revolve around the fear of the "brown" men from Mexico. Imagine my "shock and surprise" that the first time I heard of this little conspiracy, it was all about how the Mexicans were invading, and going to take over our country, and here was the "proof". No mention of the Canadians, probably because they're "white".

So I ask again; so what?

Posted by corkyt in reply to magnolialover

My original question was, is it sinister? I have not made up my mind. The reason the Tin-Foil Hatters are having such a field day with this is because of the "secrecy"...lack of media coverage. Bush denies the "North American Union" as fodder. But what is the end game of the SPP? Will there be a Trilateral Supragovermental organization that usurps congress for instance? Those are important questions...so important that the SPP website has a whole page dedicated to mythbusting.

As an ex-pat living in the UK for the last 8 years, I have witnessed the not so rapid decline of the dollar with much dismay. I do see the need for the US to compete in this globalized environment. Maybe a North American Union is not such a bad idea. It just depends on who is at the helm.

Being a brown person myself, race does not come into play. I think cynicism is more a factor.

Posted by kelso rich

MALVEAUX: Well, Wolf, there's a lot of talk in the blogosphere and conspiracy theorists who believe that this summit was really a secret plot, if you will, to establish a supergovernment in support of big business -- that even there'd be some sort of superhighway that would be traveling through all three of the countries.

I'm simply pointing out that there ARE plans for the superhighway.  Whether or not one think's it's a big deal or not is personal opinion, but the superhighway plans are not a 'conspiracy theory', that's all.

Sorry, think not think's.

The Union we have now is bad enough, now they want to add Mexico and Canada to the Empire? Mexico is already a thoroughly corrupt and repressive corporofascist state, I can see why Corporate America wants them, cheap labour they can kill if it gets too uppity. But Canada? Methinks the corpos just want to control Canada to end their socialised health care, so we Americans have nothing to compare our crappy system to.

I think we need less Union. The US would cause a lot less trouble in the world if we broke up into 50 indy states. Then Texas can war with Iraq and South Carolina can fund Israel, if they want. They can pay for it all by themselves, too.

Posted by corkyt

So your answer is National Castration. .. That could work for a while ;until the Chinese and our other creditors decide to collect and what a better time than when were all divided and fighting amongst ourselves. Union! You'll be screaming for a union when the real owners of our dept show up, ironically turning us all into slave labor.

How's that for cynical?
