Fox hosts Rove without disclosing reported role with McCain campaign

Summary: Republican strategist and Fox News contributor Karl Rove appeared on Fox News' America's Election HQ and Hannity & Colmes to discuss the presidential race, but none of the hosts -- Bill Hemmer, Sean Hannity, or Alan Colmes -- asked Rove whether he was "informally advising" Sen. John McCain's campaign, as a Politico article citing "[a] top McCain adviser" reported, and none noted that Rove has reportedly confirmed donating to McCain's campaign.

I mean, if any of these shows tried to paint Rove in the light of an objective commentator, I can see why this would be a problem..but I doubt that labeling him "former Bush advisor" does that.

Posted by tommy in reply to dexteritas0071418

Exactly Dex, this is just nitpicking by MMFA.  Find me a person who has one iota of political knowledge who watches these shows and says "Karl Rove, who is he?"  His slanted and uber partisan commenting should be no surprise to anyone, including MMFA.

Posted by solon in reply to tommy

No it isnt nitpicking and Hannity is particularly bad about this. When you host a person who has a specific ax to grind you disclose that. It is basic journalistic ethics. When you put a guy on to discuss the presidential race and he is conneted to a candidate it absoluty should be disclosed. NOT just that he is a republican but that he is helping the McCain campaign.

Posted by lolo in reply to solon

You love to bytch and complain don't ya Solon? Do you really believe they intentionally didn't disclose it?

great work MMFA. Know republican supporter and advisor  supports republican...

what a story.

Posted by solon in reply to lolo

You LOVE to show your ignorance dont you? Whether it is intentional is irrelevant but YES I think they intentionally didnt disclose it. Hannity has a pattern of EXACTLY not disclosing when his guest has a conflict of interest. The ethics here are clear. IF a guest is supposed to comment on a campaign and they have an connection with one of the candidates it is unethical not to disclose that. Try to have some dim conception what you are talking about you insufferable moron.

"When you put a guy on to discuss the presidential race and he is conneted to a candidate it absoluty should be disclosed. "

Dang skippy, Solon. I didn't know Rove was doing work for McSame.
Does MMFA ever disclose its close relationship with the Hillary Clinton campaign?

I didn't think so...

Posted by wzwriter in reply to notanotherconservative2254

It's hard to disclose what does not exist.

Posted by solon in reply to notanotherconservative2254

Do you ever know what you are talking about?

Do you ever know what you are talking about?

Conservatives never do....   :-)

Posted by roundhouse in reply to dexteritas0071418

"but I doubt that labeling him "former Bush advisor" does that." How about labeling him current McSame advisor?

Posted by IRONY 101

What's the big surprise? FOX News also doesn't identify itself as the propaganda arm of the Republican Party. Is there even one ignorant soul in the entire country who doesn't understand that?

Posted by Clevenative in reply to IRONY 101

I wish there was one – there are millions. Don’t kid yourself. Every day I read a blog from someone who’s parent or grandparent has parroted some ridiculous “fact” they heard on Fox News. This 70 and 80 something “base” of Faux News watches the candy coated “news” because that is what they want to hear. They REALLY believe what they hear from Hannity, O’Reilley, et al and are convinced that WE are the looney ones – the un-American far-left Nazi commies out to ruin America with our secular progressive pro-gay agenda who are always looking for handouts and a free ride because we are too lazy to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps.  That’s the Faux News message being sold to America in one sentence! -  And they have plenty of “buyers”.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to Clevenative

I know...dumb question.  ;>)

Posted by proudconservative

I think the way this guy has been treated is disgusting.  How could his enemies get away with saying these kinds of things while involved in a campaign?  We need to stand up in order to have MM(vl) get more coverage about this kind of treatment by people involved in campaigning.  Enough of the namecalling already.

Posted by Kyle_Broflovski in reply to proudconservative

I'm sorry - you think Rove is being treated unfairly?  Your comment is quite vague...

Posted by proudconservative in reply to Kyle_Broflovski

Polishkyle,

I think that the link shows how someone is being treated unfairly.  And rather than bring this kind of story to light of day, MM(vl) would choose to deflect from what is really going on in campaigns.

Posted by Kyle_Broflovski in reply to proudconservative

Sorry - I didn't click your link, and I'm still not going to.  I don't patronize Youtube for political commentary, too biased and unfiltered.

Posted by proudconservative in reply to Kyle_Broflovski

How can something be unfiltered AND biased?

Posted by Kyle_Broflovski in reply to proudconservative

Well, it's unfiltered because anyone can post whatever they want there.  It's biased because you posted the link, and your own bias is apparent in your handle.

Posted by proudconservative in reply to Kyle_Broflovski

kylemeister,

Please, take a peek.  Sometimes looking into the eyes of the darkside of the force is good for the soul.  I promise that you will survive and live to post again, but I cannot guarantee it will be without bias or liberal filtering!

Posted by solon in reply to proudconservative

How would you know ProudMoron? You LIVE on the darkside and never venture forth into the reality based universe

Posted by solon in reply to proudconservative

ProudMoron is again whining that Media Matters doesnt do things the way HE wants them done. WWAAAHHHHH. Rove is a weasel on a good day. Attacking him doesnt even constitute misinformation but certainly not CONSERVATIVE media misinformation.

Posted by Kyle_Broflovski in reply to proudconservative

Rove should be in jail.

Free Don Siegelman!

Posted by SueEld in reply to Kyle_Broflovski

I remember the great David Schuster lon AMESSNBC last year said Karl Rove would be indicted.  It never happened.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to SueEld

Rove came mighty close to being indicted. If you recall when his lawyer caught wind that Rove had been contradicted by another witness Rove recollection was suddenly refreshed and he went scurrying back to the prosecutor's office to correct his previous statements.

Posted by friedbergboy1422 in reply to proudconservative

PC, though you destroyed my nickname, I hope you were able to read my response yesterday.  I am glad we were able to have a discussion even if we don't agree.

Posted by magnolialover in reply to proudconservative

Sorry dude. Anything that happens to Rove is a revisiting of his past "sins" anyway. I can't think of anyone who deserves more bad kharma than this guy. Ye shall reap what ye shall sow? Right?

Posted by Clevenative in reply to magnolialover

Yep - and he got what he deserves in Iowa on Monday...

Rove taunted in Iowa

Posted by dbeden4153 in reply to proudconservative

PC (how fitting ;) ), I don't get it.  Are you saying it's disgusting what they are doing to Karl Rove?  which is what this thread is about?  Or are you saying that about Obama, which is what your link suggests? Or are you being sarcastic?  It's especially frustrating because Obama doesn't mention Karl Rove once in that entire speech.

Really, Karl Rove gets every bit of what his name engenders for the rest of history.  Why McCain would even associate himself with Rove after what he did to him is appalling.

Karl Rove has also stepped beyond the bounds of Orwellian thought in what many journalists have described as "Rovism."  Orwellian thought suggest that all politicians operate in an Orwellian nimbus where words don't mean what they normally mean, while Rovism posits there is no objective, verifiable reality at all.  Reality is what you say it is.   That is a dangerous and corruptive force in our political system.

Posted by BillJ-MN in reply to proudconservative

PC, did you link to the correct youtube video?  That was Obama responding effectively and with good humor to the Clintons' suggestion of him as Vice-President.  Unless I missed it, there was no mention of Rove at all.  There was no namecalling.

What was the point of the link?

Posted by eweston8542983

I suppore everytime some accuses Hillary of being Rovian, its another chunk knocked off his delcate and sensitive heart. When will the pain end for Karl?

:-$

Posted by IRONY 101

I watched a Frontline profile of Karl Rove the other night. If Rove is advising McCain, and if history is any indicator, watch for McCain to play the anti-gay card at some point during the general campaign. It's a Rove trademark.

Posted by wzwriter

It fits their usual pattern of behavior.  I mean, how many times did Sean Hannity have Rudy Giuliani on a a guest, without ever mentioning that he had helped raise money for Rudy by speaking at his campaign events???

Posted by SueEld

I actually have started to like Karl Rove on FOX, I have started watching FOX lately, I got tired of the hate at MSNBC and the slowness of CNN.  He is funny and smart. The network is biased , no question but so his MSNBC.  They hate Hillary more than FOX does.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to SueEld

"He is funny and smart."

...and he would have no compunction about running you over with a truck (figuratively speaking) if that's what he had to do to get a candidate elected, Sue. Somehow, I can't divorce Rove's sinister side from a charming screen personna. But, to each his own...

Posted by wzwriter in reply to IRONY 101

He is funny and smart.

That's what Hitler's close friends used to say about Adolf.....

I firmly believe that CD can not comprehend the reason for this website's existence. He just sees it as a political tool of the left.  That's okay, it's his right to believe that, but any journalistic background would tell you the necessity of this site.  As well as cites that highlight liberal misinformation.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to dbeden4153

"He just sees it as a political tool of the left."

It's called projection...because that's exactly how the right wing operates. Prime example: FOX News.

Posted by worrierking in reply to IRONY 101

Copious Dysentery is just angry that this site is so biased. He thinks it should be more even handed and unbiased, like his site.

You did know that CD has a website, right?

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to worrierking

Yes, I do know that. I checked it out once...and that's enough for me.  ;>)
That's because, there are none, but that's OK. Keep repeating that old carrot.

Posted by tbone

If Rove were a formal advisor, MMFA might have more of a case.  But even without disclosure, few would see Rove as an objective analyst.

Further, I hope McCain loads up his campaign with these Bush hacks.  All the better to help ensure he is thoroughly thumped in November.

Posted by SueEld in reply to tbone

I wouldnt wish that, these people are nasty and know how to win. I am sure that they are behind the Spitzer leak. I would be 60-40 McCain wins in November.

Posted by tbone in reply to SueEld

You overestimate their support base.  McCain is already overplaying the Bush connection and has very fractured and tenuous support.  He's only the nominee because the field was so weak to begin with and the Republicans are disheveled (Fiscal vs. social vs. religious vs neo-conservatism).  They are not their father's GOP.

The Dem nominee just has to stay on message "Do you really want 4 more years?" and avoid the mudslinging to the extent possible.  Further McCain's flip-flops (immigration, campaign finance, fiscal policy, lobbyists, etc.) hurt him with both his base and with independents - these will be laid bare by the press and in the presidential debates.  He is only steadfast in being even more hawkish on Iraq and "preemptive" war than Bush - a position which has minority (and dwiddling) support as the numbers and facts keep revealing themselves (2 to 3 trillion cost, $108 barrel oil, no Saddam-Al Qaeda link, no threat to National Security).

Dems are turning out in record numbers for the primaries.  Barring some Dem cataclysm between now and Nov., they will do so again.

Posted by IRONY 101 in reply to tbone

The point is to keep watching. If McCain's general election campaign starts taking on more Rovian tricks then you will know how active Rove is. As I said above, for one example, if McCain brings up homosexual issues then that's a Rove trademark.

Posted by magnolialover in reply to IRONY 101

That's only closeted homosexual deflection from Rove no doubt when he starts talking about homosexual "issues" and or "agenda".

Posted by ecmarauder in reply to tbone

I hope McCain "loads up" too,Tbone. Have you forgotten what Rove and the "bushies" did in '00 and '04? THEY WON!!!!! Hee hee hee.

Posted by solon in reply to ecmarauder

Yeah in 2000 the only election they WON was 5 to 4. They LOST the popular vote by more than half a million votes. Good luck getting McCain in after duplicating THAT performance.

Posted by ecmarauder

stop the presses---karl rove donates to mccain campaign!!!!!!! could this possibly be news to anyone? wow,he might be "informally advising" mccain!!!! it would be newsworthy if he wasn't. c'mon, mmfa, you gotta be more relevant than this or your mind-numbed followers may begin to question your relevance and credibility...........naaah,who am i kidding, not gonna happen.

Posted by worrierking in reply to ecmarauder

Could this be the return of Hysterical Buff?

copiousdissent.blogspot.com,

"MMFA reports without disclosing ties to Hillary Clinton."

Really, I'm fascinated. Please tell us alllllll about it. <sarcasam>

So the FALSE NEWSCHANNEL has the PILLSBURY DOUGHBOY on as a guest ,kind of like HINRICH HIMMLER being a guest on DR. JOSEPH GOEBBLES  radio program . definitly fair and ballanced.
This is the same Karl Rove that criticized Congressman Jack Murrtha for wanting to pull out of IRAQ.He called  Murrtha ,a decorated war vet,a coward for wanting to ''cut and run''all the while Rove avoided service and putting his neck on the line when his time came up. We call people like that CHICKENHAWKS and I HAVE NO RESPECT for ROVE and people like him.

You gonna post your derail the thread attempt in all the threads? I hear your bridge calling troll.

Posted by magnolialover in reply to solon

Oh no! Not Glen Beck talking bad about the so called "liberal media" and all. Jeesh. When are these guys gonna figure it out that the liberal media that they decry so much, they're part of it. Glen Beck, O'Reilly, and whoever else you want to throw in there ARE the media. How often do we keep hearing about conservative talk show hosts DOMINATING radio. If the media were so "liberal" wouldn't this not be true? And yet, it is. Hmm...
