CNN's Schneider suggested Obama took a "cheap shot" because "McCain almost certainly misspoke when he said he wouldn't speak with Spain" - but McCain's adviser said he didn't

Suggesting that Sen. Barack Obama had taken a "cheap shot" at Sen. John McCain during the presidential debate, CNN's Bill Schneider wrote: "McCain almost certainly misspoke when he said he wouldn't speak with Spain. ... I am not sure that's a fair thing for Obama to call him on." In fact, McCain foreign policy adviser Randy Scheunemann reportedly wrote that "there is no doubt Senator McCain knew exactly to whom the question referred" and that McCain in fact "refused to commit to a White House meeting with President Zapatero."

CNN's Schneider asserted that Lieberman speech at RNC could draw Jewish voters, but did not mention polling showing low approval among Jews

CNN's Bill Schneider asserted that "[t]here are some Jewish voters who still have questions about Barack Obama," and that Sen. Joe Lieberman's speaking role at the RNC "could be a way of drawing some Jewish voters over to the Republican ticket." But Schneider made no mention of a poll released in mid-July that found that 48 percent of Jews have a negative opinion of Lieberman, with 37 percent holding a favorable view. In contrast, the same survey found that 60 percent have a favorable view of Obama, while 34 percent view him unfavorably.

Situation Room played up McCain attacks on Clinton over earmark, but didn't note his missed vote

CNN's The Situation Room has
reported several times on Sen. John McCain's attacks on Sen. Hillary Clinton's
support for a $1 million earmark for a museum at the site of the original 1969
Woodstock music
festival. But in none of its reports did CNN note that, although McCain is
listed as a co-sponsor
of the amendment to
remove the funding for the museum, he missed the vote on the
earmark.

CNN's Schneider echoed Wash. Post, RNC in suggesting Clinton has changed her position on Iraq

CNN's Bill Schneider falsely suggested that Sen. Hillary
Rodham Clinton had changed her position on the Iraq
war during the past week because she
announced her intention to introduce a
bill "to sunset the authorization for the war in Iraq." However, Clinton introduced a bill in the Senate on February 16 that includes a provision
that would "require a new authorization for use of United States military forces in Iraq" unless certain
conditions are met.

Obama's "rookie mistakes" spread to CNN

CNN's Bill Schneider asserted that Sen.
Barack Obama has made what "look like rookie mistakes" after airing
a clip of a journalist noting
that Obama's
memoir "has composite characters, made-up dialogue, and he switched names
of many of the characters in it. So, when you read it, you're not sure what's
true and what's not." However,
Obama acknowledged changes
he made when he wrote the book -- more than 10 years ago.

Schneider said Giuliani modified his abortion views "ever so slightly," failed to note two flip-flops

CNN's Bill Schneider said that Rudy
Giuliani "seems to be modifying his views ever so slightly,"
including on abortion rights. But Schneider did not mention Giuliani's
recent shift on "partial-birth abortion" or his reported reversal on abortion rights in
general in 1989.

After touting GOP's "remarkable" feat in 2002 election, media ignored historical context for Dem victories in 2006

Even though Democrats gained
control of the House of Representatives and the Senate without losing a single
seat -- an electoral feat last accomplished in 1938 -- the media have not highlighted this achievement in the two weeks after Election Day. But when Republicans gained seats in both the House and Senate in the 2002 midterm elections, the first time since 1934 a president's party had done so
during its first midterm election, news outlets praised it as "remarkable" and "historic."
